梅丽莎·康纳, 博士学位, received her Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison 和 went on to earn her Master of Arts in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison 和 her 博士学位 in geography from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. An associate professor of forensic anthropology, 康纳 teaches Human Remains Detection 和 Recovery for Medico-Legal Investigation, 刑事学, Survey of Forensic Science 和 Forensic Taphonomy. 康纳也是the Forensic Investigation Research Station (FIRS), which focuses its research interests on the decomposition of human remains. She is also the advisor for the forensic anthropology minor 和 Forensic Science Club. Her research interests include taphonomy, conflict archaeology 和 transitional justice.

康纳 has 30 years of archaeological experience, 和 has worked in forensic science for the last 15 years. 她是……的作者 Forensic Methods Excavation for the Archaeologist 和 Investigator, 2007年由AltiMira出版社出版. 她专门研究万人坑, working in post-conflict area throughout the former Yugoslavia, 在卢旺达, 斯里兰卡, 塞浦路斯和尼日利亚. She gained her initial experience in battlefields working on archaeological sites such as the Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana. 她是 Archaeological Perspectives on the Little BighornThey Died with Custer: Soldiers' Bones from the Battle of the Little Bighorn, both published by the University of Oklahoma Press.

康纳 started teaching after 15 years in federal government 和 her philosophy is strongly influenced by the practicalities 和 ethos of government service. She believes students need a strong grasp of the subject matter 和 high professional st和ards, but that it is as important to teach them to be life-long learners, 要有强烈的道德感, to be team players 和 to be problem solvers. 没有这些工具, students will not succeed no matter how strong their grasp of the subject matter 和 with them they become leaders in their field.

At CMU, 康纳 works to incorporate these objectives into many of her courses. She incorporates discussions on the ethical issues of forensic science into the courses whenever possible. She puts students in situations where they must function as a team or fail, 和 she stresses research methods 和 problem-solving skills. 康纳 is also a strong believer in assessment, 在个人层面上, on the course level 和 on the programmatic level. Assessment is not just a report to be turned in yearly or a rubric for students, but an ongoing dialogue between students, 教师, administration 和 the market that hires our students.

Forensic science is an applied science 和 康纳 believes its practitioners must continually reach out to professionals in the field 和 translate their needs to academia, as well as listen to the academic community. Her teaching goal is to produce graduates who are strong professionals 和 responsible members of their community.
